Okay, this is a big big update to what I wrote in my last entry, which was interesting but incorrect on most points. Linda and I went to a local typesetters called Community Printers and they had the answer to all my questions. Apparently you can't use anyone's artwork unless otherwise specified (like for reviews they sometimes allow it) but all you have to do is send the artist an email and say what it's for and ask if they need payment and you can work things out from their. First Friday Santa Cruz particularly gives people the chance to meet different artists and build a relationship with them, which is a lot more fun than digging around in the public domain for art by people who couldn't afford a lawyer, or who died over a hundred years ago. I'm looking forward to meeting you all, if I haven't already.
